Carson Spur
Carson Spur lies 7 mile west of Carson Pass, near the trailhead for Thunder Mountain. Even from the side of highway 88, one need only look north to see vast expanses of granite and pine trees in the Eldorado National Forest. Those who are willing to take a short hike along the ridge trail will be rewarded with views of some very interesting volcanic rock formations, no doubt attributable to the nearby remnant volcano Round Top.

During this hour-long exposure, the Earth rotated 15 degrees, resulting in the effect of star trails. An illuminated Sierra juniper (Juniperus grandis) adds to the concept of time passage, as these trees are truly ancient, with some specimens living thousands of years.
