Spined turban gall wasp (Cynips douglasii)
The spined turban gall wasp (Cynips douglasii, previously Antron douglasii) induces remarkably-shaped galls which vary in color from purple to pink to white. In addition to the main larval chamber, each gall contains an additional empty chamber, whose purpose remains a scientific mystery.
