Urn Gall Wasp (Phylloteras cupella)
The urn gall wasp (Phylloteras cupella) is a Cynipid wasp which induces cup- or urn-shaped galls on a number of white oaks. The galls are quite small (roughly 1.5mm in diameter), and form on the lower leaf surface near the margin. A close inspection will reveal a shiny, slightly grooved surface, covered in a multitude of tiny hairs.
