Velvety-Black Earth Tongue (Trichoglossum hirsutum)

The velvety-black earth tongue (Trichoglossum hirsutum) is a very common club fungus known for its soft, minutely-hairy exterior, and flattened and furrowed head. There are similar species that can only be differentiated by microscopy, but T. hirsutum is the most prevalent along the Pacific Coast. Additional common names include black earth tongue and hairy earthtongue.
