Acute Conic Waxy Cap (Hygrocybe acutoconica)

The acute conic waxy cap (Hygrocybe acutoconica) is a vibrantly-colored mushroom known for its somewhat-viscid, conical cap. Young specimens are white to yellow, often transitioning to orangish or even reddish orange upon maturity. H. singeri is very similar, but stains black when bruised or with age. As with most waxy caps, this beautiful species has a close association with redwoods.
