Meadow Lupine (Lupinus polyphyllus var. burkei)

Meadow lupine or Burke's lupine (Lupinus polyphyllus var. burkei) is a California-native plant, which is common in the Sierra Nevada and other high elevation ranges in the west. This perennial herb produces large, blue to purple wildflowers that are typically bumblebee-pollinated. Often found at stream edges and moist meadows, this species is also known as streamside lupine or bog lupine. Other common names, such as bigleaf lupine and large-leaved lupine, make reference to the plant's substantial foliage.
