Coast Lily (Lilium maritimum)

The coast lily (Lilium maritimum) is a rare and endangered perennial herb that is endemic (restricted) to the northern California coast. To the casual observer, these gorgeous wildflowers can appear very similar to the leopard lily (L. pardalinum), which also occurs on the west coast. However, the latter has strongly exserted (extending beyond the flower petals) stamens and stigma. On the coast lily, these delicate structures barely extend past the petals, if at all.
