Royal Larkspur (Delphinium variegatum ssp. variegatum)

Royal larkspur (Delphinium variegatum ssp. variegatum) is a beautiful plant found only in the great state of California. Its wildflowers have five large sepals which are generally a magnificent royal blue. The top sepal bears the spur after which the genus is named. In the center of the flower are four petals, the upper two of which are typically whitish with royal blue striations. The lower two petals match the sepals and partially conceal the plant's numerous stamens.
