Arcyria incarnata

Arcyria incarnata is a slime mold species whose fruiting bodies are known for their pinkish color and delicate capillitia (net-like fibers that hold spores). With the gentlest breeze, these capillitia will easily separate from the calyculi (the cup-like bases that hold the capillitia) - a key diagnostic feature that helps to distinguish this species from the more robust A. denudata.

Arcyria incarnata, mature fruiting bodies after having been gently blown upon. Note that the capillitia (the net-like fibers) are mostly separated from the calyculi (the cup-like bases that once held them). This is a key diagnostic feature that helps to distinguish this species from the more robust A. denudata. Focus-stacked composite of 109 exposures. Collected from Solano County, California, USA, and cultivated in a moist chamber.
