Crystalline Gall Wasp (Feron crystallinum)
The crystalline gall wasp (Feron crystallinum, formerly Andricus crystallinus) induces galls on the leaves of a variety of white oaks. Summer-generation (unisexual, containing only females) galls are covered in bristly hairs and generally form large, clustered masses on lower leaf surfaces. Spring-generation (bisexual, containing both females and males) galls are also hairy, but develop on upper leaf surfaces and do not form dense masses.
