Spring Orange Peel Fungus (Caloscypha fulgens)

The spring orange peel fungus (Caloscypha fulgens) is a cup fungus commonly found at higher elevations shortly after snowmelt. It appears to be especially prevalent in red fir forests. The vibrant fruitbodies resemble orange peels and stain greenish blue with age. Aleuria aurantia is similar, but lacks the stains and occurs at lower elevations.
