Parrot Mushroom (Gliophorus psittacinus)
The parrot mushroom (Gliophorus psittacinus, formerly Hygrocybe psittacina) is a stunningly gorgeous species of fungus, known for its viscid green cap that eventually transitions to yellow and pinkish tones with maturity. The wide range of vibrant colors give rise to the common name, as well as the specific epithet, psittacinus, which means parrot. Additional common names include parrot waxcap and parrot toadstool. Despite all the avian references, this beautiful mushroom is definitely not for the birds.
