Dingy Twiglet (Simocybe centunculus group)
The dingy twiglet (Simocybe centunculus) is a small, rather drab mushroom which occurs on rotting hardwood. Its cap starts out velvety, but becomes smoother with age. Short, white mycelial fibers often adorn the base of the stipe. California is likely home to several similar species all going by this catchall name.
