Yellow Star Tulip (Calochortus monophyllus)

The yellow star tulip (Calochortus monophyllus) is a California-native perennial herb, which is endemic to the foothills of the Sierra Nevada and southern Cascades. Its hairy, bright yellow wildflowers are quite showy, and make for a beautiful contrast to the pine forest humus from which they grow. Despite the common name, this plant is not a member of the true tulips (genus Tulipa).
