Bitterroot (Lewisia rediviva)
Bitterroot (Lewisia rediviva) is a perennial herb notable for its unusual flowers, which often upstage its small, fleshy, withering leaves. The generic name, Lewisia, honors Meriwether Lewis, who encountered the unique plants on the Lewis and Clark expedition. Lewisia rediviva is Montana's state flower and is endemic to western North America.
