Applegate's Indian Paintbrush (Castilleja applegatei)
Applegate's Indian paintbrush (Castilleja applegatei) is a beautifully showy California-native wildflower that is endemic to western North America. This perennial herb's leaves are distinctively wavy, making identification fairly easy and giving rise to the alternate common name, wavyleaf Indian paintbrush.
Applegate's Indian paintbrush (Castilleja applegatei ssp. pallida). Focus-stacked from 15 exposures for increased depth of field and subject detail. This subspecies was formerly designated as Castilleja breweri var. pallida, and is sometimes called Brewer's Indian paintbrush. Eldorado National Forest, Sierra Nevada, Amador County, California, USA.
