Valley Tassels (Castilleja attenuata)

Valley tassels (Castilleja attenuata) is an annual wildflower which graces western North America from March through May. As with all species of Indian paintbrush, it is a root-parasite which derives nutrients from nearby plants. Additional common names include narrow-leaved owl's clover and attenuate Indian paintbrush.
