Crab Spiders (Mecaphesa spp.)

Mecaphesa is a genus of crab spider (Thomisidae) whose members lie in wait on flowers, and prey upon insects that come close enough to attack. Their anterior lateral eyes are larger than their anterior median eyes, and their carapaces and abdomens are adorned with abundant setae (bristles or hairs). A careful examination of the reproductive structures is usually required for identification down to the species level.
